Man rescued from ravine in Tenerife after shouting for help
A man was rescued from the depths of a ravine in La Guancha, a small municipality in the north of Tenerife, this morning (Wednesday) after shouting for help from an area so hidden that the person who raised the alarm could not even see him. The emergency unfolded just after 9 am in the rugged El Desrriscadero ravine, where the man had fallen and been left stranded among dense vegetation.
The 112 control centre activated a full rescue operation, sending Tenerife Firefighters and Environment Service personnel into the difficult terrain. After a search through thick undergrowth, crews finally located the injured man and worked to get him out safely from the steep, uneven ground.
SUC medics treated him in the ravine for multiple moderate injuries before transferring him by ambulance to Hospital del Norte. Local Police officers supported the operation and helped secure access to the area as crews carried out the rescue.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how the man fell into the ravine, but say the rapid response prevented the situation from becoming far more serious.
In Tenerife, incidents like this are far from isolated. Emergency teams regularly carry out difficult rescues in rugged areas such as the Masca Gorge, where hikers often become exhausted or stranded on steep sections of the trail. Similar operations are frequently reported in the Anaga mountains, particularly in ravines around Taganana and Afur, where visitors slip on loose terrain or become lost in low cloud.
In the south of the island, crews have also responded to falls in the Barranco del Infierno in Adeje and in remote agricultural areas above Arona and Vilaflor. These rescues often involve challenging access, unstable ground and thick undergrowth, and emergency services continue to remind residents and tourists to take precautions when walking in Tenerife’s wilder landscapes.
