Man rescued after falling into ravine in Tenerife

A 67-year-old man has been injured after falling down a staircase into a ravine in Santa Cruz, Tenerife. Emergency services were called to the barranco yesterday afternoon (Thursday) following reports of the incident.

According to the Canary Islands emergency coordination centre, the alert was raised just before 4 pm on Calle José de Zárate y Penichet. The man had reportedly fallen from a set of steps leading towards the ravine.

Firefighters rescued him and brought him to waiting medical teams. He was treated at the roadside by paramedics before being taken to hospital.

The injured man suffered multiple moderate injuries and was transferred to the University Hospital of La Candelaria for further treatment. His condition has not been reported as life-threatening.
