A video circulating on social media has raised safety concerns among residents in southern Tenerife after a man was filmed crossing a busy road in a mobility scooter during morning rush hour.

The footage, shared by the Facebook page Tenerife Quejas Vecinales on Wednesday, captures the moment a man in an electric mobility scooter in the middle of the TF-65 road approaching Las Chafiras from Los Abrigos, one of the busiest areas in the south of the island.

The incident took place at approximately 9:25am on Tuesday, when the man was seen slowly making his way across the multi-lane road. At one point, he stopped in the middle of the carriageway, directly in front of a queue of waiting vehicles, before continuing toward a nearby commercial zone.

The manoeuvre, although slow and seemingly cautious, has sparked debate online, with many locals expressing alarm at the risk both to the man and to other road users.

Accessibility or Safety Issue?

While many sympathised with the man’s possible lack of safe alternatives, others questioned why infrastructure in such a busy area doesn’t better accommodate people with reduced mobility. Las Chafiras, known for its commercial zones and traffic bottlenecks, is often criticised for its lack of pedestrian crossings and accessible paths.

As of now, no official statement has been made by local authorities regarding the incident. However, the video has reignited calls for urgent improvements to pedestrian safety and mobility access across key urban areas of the island.
