A 42-year-old man is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in a serious accident early this morning (Friday) in Candelaria.

The collision happened just after 7:00 am on Calle Guanches de la Virgen de la Candelaria, triggering an urgent response from the Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Centre, CECOES 1-1-2, after callers reported a pedestrian lying badly injured on the road.

Paramedics arrived within minutes with two ambulances. They found the victim with a severe traumatic brain injury and stabilised him at the roadside before rushing him to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria in a medicalised unit.

Local Police are leading the investigation to determine exactly how the impact occurred.

In recent weeks, there have been multiple reported pedestrian accidents across the islands. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’s Autovía Marítima late in January, a man was killed after being hit by a vehicle in the Vegueta district.

Around the same time, four people were injured, one critically, following a collision and subsequent pedestrian involvement near La Matanza de Acentejo on the TF-217.

In Arrecife and Puerto del Carmen, two separate pedestrians were seriously injured by drivers within 24 hours, and another case in early January saw a man in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria critically injured after being hit by a motorcycle.
