A man has died after being hit by a car in the early hours of this morning (Sunday) on the TF-1 motorway, near Granadilla de Abona, in the south of Tenerife, as confirmed by the Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The accident occurred around kilometre point 49 of the southbound carriageway. Emergency callers reported that a person had been hit by a vehicle and urgently needed medical assistance.

Emergency Response

CECOES dispatched all relevant resources including an SUC ambulance and a doctor from the San Isidro health centre. Despite their rapid arrival, the man’s injuries were extremely severe, and medical staff could only confirm his death at the scene.

Accidents involving pedestrians on fast roads such as the TF-1 rarely allow a chance of survival due to the speed of passing vehicles, and it is thought that this incident involved someone on their way home from Carnival.

Police and Road Management

The Guardia Civil took charge of the incident, documenting the circumstances surrounding the accident and managing traffic to prevent further incidents. Road maintenance teams from the Tenerife Cabildo also cleaned the area to ensure the motorway could reopen safely.
