A 30-year-old man is under investigation in northern Tenerife after police discovered four starving dogs left without food or water for days in filthy conditions. The animals were all classed as potentially dangerous breeds and were found on a plot of land in Guayonje, Tacoronte, after horrified neighbours raised the alarm.

When officers arrived, they found the dogs emaciated, dehydrated, and living among dirt and waste. One of them had a badly infected wound on its hind leg. The Local Police confirmed the case as a clear act of animal cruelty and immediately activated emergency protocols to save the dogs’ lives. The animals were seized and rushed to a local vet for urgent treatment and care.

Investigators are also looking into whether the dogs may have been used for fighting, given their breeds and physical state. The suspect has been officially reported for animal abuse, and the case has been handed over to the courts.

This latest incident adds to a disturbing rise in animal cruelty cases across Tenerife, following a recent arrest of an 80-year-old man for neglecting and abandoning a donkey in similar conditions.

Authorities have condemned the incident as “deeply distressing” and have reminded the public that animal neglect is a criminal offence in Spain, punishable by prison time and heavy fines.
