Man hospitalised after house fire in Tenerife

A man was injured in a house fire in Icod de Los Vinos in the north of Tenerife last night (Thursday), and needed medical treatment for smoke inhalation, as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination centre (CECOES).

The incident took place on Calle Amparo at approximately 8:30pm, which is when CECOES received an alert, requesting help. Firefighters were quick to extinguish the blaze and ventilate the property, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area, while SUC medical personnel treated the man and then took him to hospital for further treatment.

The Icod de Los vinos Local Police were present to assist the emergency services in their efforts, while the Guardia Civil took charge of conducting the necessary investigations. As of now, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, with investigations still underway.

To prevent such incidents, it is crucial for residents to take proactive measures including installing smoke alarms in key areas of the home and ensuring they are regularly tested and maintained.

Additionally, avoiding overloading electrical sockets and ensuring that all appliances are in good working order can significantly reduce the risk of electrical fires.

Regularly reviewing and practicing a family fire escape plan can further enhance safety, ensuring that everyone knows how to respond quickly and efficiently in the event of a fire.
