A murder investigation is underway in Gran Canaria after the body of a man was discovered with multiple stab wounds in Playa del Inglés.
The victim, believed to be a homeless man of North African origin, was found shortly before midday on Tuesday on Calle Las Dunas, an area where he was known to sleep rough. Emergency services were alerted just before midday, but paramedics were unable to revive him upon arrival.
According to police sources, the man frequently slept in the car park of the nearby Anexo II shopping centre, close to the Hard Rock Café. His body displayed clear signs of violence, including stab wounds to the chest and evidence of evisceration, with part of his intestines exposed.
Forensic officers and detectives from the National Police station in Maspalomas quickly cordoned off the scene to begin collecting evidence. While the exact circumstances of the death have yet to be determined, investigators are not ruling out any possibilities, including self-inflicted injuries, although the nature of the wounds strongly suggests the involvement of third parties.
The deceased was found lying beside his mattress and personal belongings. His body has since been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, where an autopsy will be conducted to establish the precise cause of death.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward and assist with enquiries.
