A man has died after being rescued from the sea showing signs of drowning at Maspalomas Beach, located in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria.
The emergency services were alerted at 3:45pm on Saturday when the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert informing them that that a man had been pulled from the water in distress.
Red Cross personnel at the scene initiated basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts on the beach until support arrived. When it did, paramedics took over and performed advanced CPR techniques, but despite their efforts, they were unable to revive the man and confirmed his death at the scene.
The National Police took responsibility for the deceased until the arrival of the judicial authorities who gave permission for the body to be removed for official identification and autopsy to determine the cause of death.
