A man was tragically killed yesterday, Thursday, after the car he was driving veered down a steep hillside near the El Contador Recreational Area in the municipality of Arico, in Tenerife, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
They received an alert at 2:35pm informing them that a vehicle had gone off the road on the ascent to the popular recreational site, with two people inside who needed urgent medical assistance.
CECOES immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to location given, where paramedics were the first to arrive to assess the occupants of the car.
They treated a 34-year-old man for multiple injuries and stabilised him before he was taken to the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria by ambulance for further care.
Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do to save the life of the other, who succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Firefighters worked to secure the vehicle and moved it safely to the side of the road, while officers from the Guardia Civil managed traffic in the area and conducted the necessary investigation to document the accident.
Investigators are continuing their work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
