A 93-year-old man lost his life yesterday (Tuesday) in a serious road accident in the south of Tenerife, when his vehicle veered off the road and plunged over the edge of a ravine and landed on an uninhabited building.
According to reports from the emergency services (112), the incident occurred on Calle Fermín Pérez in San Miguel de Abona at around 1:20pm, when the man allegedly lost control of his Toyota pickup truck.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene of the accident to find the man unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters were required to extricate him from the wreckage, before paramedics could treat him.
Once freed from the pickup, SUC medical personnel were only able to confirm the man’s death due to injuries incompatible with life. The Guardia Civil took over and guarded the body until permission was given to take it for an autopsy.
They have opened an investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident, and to confirm the cause of death.
