An Italian man has died after falling from a balcony in the town of Adeje, in the south of Tenerife, late on Sunday night.
The incident occurred on Calle Concha García Álvarez, between the parish church and the historic Casa Fuerte. According to initial reports, the fall was believed to have been voluntary.
Emergency services launched a large-scale response. Officers from the Local Police and Guardia Civil, along with two ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), were dispatched to the scene.
Paramedics found the man in a critical condition and rushed him to hospital, where he sadly passed away from his injuries.
During the operation, traffic had to be diverted, and sections of Calle Grande and Calle Concha García Álvarez were temporarily closed to vehicles.
An investigation has been opened to clarify the events leading up to the incident, to determine if the man jumped or if someone else was involved.
The incident has caused shock within the local community, particularly as it comes in the wake of other serious falls reported in the Canary Islands in recent weeks.
In Gran Canaria, a woman in her early 30s suffered severe injuries after falling from a second-floor balcony, while in the south of Tenerife, a two-year-old boy was badly hurt but survived a fall from a third-floor apartment.
