Man dies after drowning incident at a beach in south of Tenerife

An 80-year-old man tragically died yesterday afternoon (Saturday) after being rescued from the water at La Tejita Beach in Granadilla de Abona, in the south of Tenerife, showing signs of drowning, according to reports from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

They received a call at 4:10pm reporting that the elderly swimmer had been pulled from the water unconscious. Lifeguards at the beach immediately began CPR until SUC medical personnel arrived.

When paramedics got to the beach, they assessed the situation and took over with advanced resuscitation techniques but unfortunately, despite their efforts, they were unable to revive him.

The Guardia Civil and Local Police of Granadilla conducted the necessary investigations and assisted the emergency services at the scene.

About La Tejita Beach:

La Tejita Beach is one of the largest natural beaches in Tenerife, known for its stretch of golden sand and crystal-clear waters, this serene beach is a popular destination for those seeking tranquillity away from the more crowded tourist areas.

The beach is nestled next to the iconic Montaña Roja, a striking red volcano that provides a dramatic backdrop and a unique landscape for hiking enthusiasts, and is also favoured by naturists, offering a designated area where they can enjoy the beach freely.

The emergency services still warn about observing yellow or red flags accordingly and taking maximum precautions as the currents can be deceptive.
