Man caught after stealing a bag and using bank cards fraudulently in Tenerife

The National Police have arrested a 35-year-old man of Spanish nationality, accused of breaking into someone’s home during the night, stealing their bag and wallet, then using the bank cards fraudulently the next day to buy things.

The incident occurred in Santa Cruz in Tenerife, when the victim realized what had happened the next morning, reporting the break-in to the National Police, denouncing the theft of her bag, which contained her purse with her ID, driving licence, and bank cards.

She also reported that she had notifications on her mobile phone showing that the cards had been used that morning, which was verified by her bank when she called to cancel them.

The police opened an investigation and managed to place a man at the entrance of the complex the house is on and at the shops that purchases had been made in, by studying CCTV footage, and actually recognised him as a habitual criminal who has been arrested before, for similar incidents.

Once identified and located, the man was arrested and charged with robbery and fraud before being placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
