Man arrested in south Tenerife for stealing motorbikes and changing their number plates

The Guardia Civil have arrested a 30-year-old man in the municipality of Arona, in the south of Tenerife, accused of stealing two motorcycles that were parked on public roads then putting false number plates on them and forging new log books and ownership documents.

Officers managed to identify one of the mopeds parked outside a bar in El Fraile as they had the original VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) for both scooters and surprised the man whilst he was in the bar.

Once the agents officially identified and arrested the man, he voluntarily stated that he had the motorcycle, to which the number plate on the moped belonged to, at his house.

He also claimed that he had bought the two motorcycles, which were reported stolen, from a stranger for 20 euros each.

The detainee, along with the relevant police reports, has been placed at the disposal of the Arona Guard Court of Instruction awaiting trial.
