The Guardia Civil have arrested a man in Tenerife suspected of stealing motorbikes, who subsequently damaged them and then abandoned them. So far the detainee is linked to eight offences of theft, including three attempted cases, and illegal occupancy of a property.
According to an official statement, the accused carried out the crimes following the same pattern. He would steal motorcycles parked in public places, vandalise them, and dump them in various locations.
In response to the surge in reported thefts, the Guardia Civil activated a surveillance team, among other investigative measures, which led to the identification, apprehension, and charging of the suspect.
Evidence and testimonies were collected to support the prosecution of the crimes, leading authorities to link the man to the illegal occupation of a property in Candelaria, which served as a base for his criminal activities.
This is not the suspect’s first run-in with the law. He was arrested last month for a separate incident involving burglary and vehicle theft in the same municipality.
Following his latest arrest, he is set to appear at the Magistrates’ Court in Güímar, along with the compiled case files.
