Man arrested for stealing perfumes worth €5,570 at Tenerife South Airport

The Guardia Civil have arrested a 46-year-old man suspected of stealing perfumes and aftershaves valued at €5,570 from Duty Free shops in departures at Tenerife South Airport.

He allegedly bought plane tickets just to obtain boarding passes so that he could go through security checks and access the airport’s restricted areas to carry out his crime.

According to a statement released yesterday (Monday) by the Guardia Civil, the suspect, a resident of Madrid, has been charged with a continuous offence of theft as he reportedly accessed the boarding area in the same way on three separate occasions, committing two thefts prior to being caught in the act of stealing this time.

The investigation began after airport authorities became aware of an initial theft. By reviewing security footage, officers gathered sufficient evidence to arrest the man.

He has now been placed under the jurisdiction of the Granadilla Investigative Court.
