Shock and anger have gripped the Mogán community in Gran Canaria after the Guardia Civil arrested a man accused of brutally killing a well-known street cat named Millu. The attack happened late at night on 30th August 2025 inside a residential complex, where Millu had lived peacefully as part of a small feline colony for several years.

CCTV footage revealed the chilling moments before the assault. The suspect can be seen approaching the defenceless cat with a set of keys in his hand. After glancing around to make sure he wasn’t being watched, he struck her with full force, leaving her bleeding and unable to move. The video, which is too graphic to publish, shows Millu suffering for almost a minute before dying from her injuries as her attacker stood by and watched without lifting a finger to help.

Officers from the SEPRONA unit in Vecindario led an investigation, gathering evidence that proved the attack was intentional and unprovoked. This act of cruelty has shaken residents, many of whom had cared for Millu over the years.

Under Ley 17/2021, animals in Spain are legally recognised as living beings capable of feeling pain, and acts of abuse can lead to severe criminal charges. The case has been handed to the duty court in San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office in Las Palmas, where the man faces prosecution.

Authorities have condemned the brutality of the attack and urged the public to take a stand against animal cruelty, calling it a matter of both legal accountability and basic human decency.
