A man has been arrested in Las Palmas on suspicion of gender-based violence after allegedly assaulting his partner and throwing her into a swimming pool.
The incident took place yesterday afternoon (Friday) at the Metropole Swimming Club in Gran Canaria.
A friend of the suspect was also arrested at the scene for allegedly attacking police officers.
According to police sources, both the main suspect and his companion displayed aggressive and uncooperative behaviour when officers arrived at the club, following reports from several witnesses.
The situation escalated to the point where the men physically resisted arrest, leading to pushing and scuffles with the attending officers.
The initial police unit called for back-up due to the hostility of those involved. Given the proximity of the Canary Islands’ High Police Headquarters, several patrol vehicles that were nearby were quickly dispatched, and both men were subsequently restrained and taken into custody.
The National Police confirmed the arrests this morning (Saturday), emphasising their continued commitment to tackling gender-based violence and ensuring the safety of victims in such incidents.
