Man arrested after attacking partner for refusing sex
A 35-year-old man has been arrested in Santa Cruz de Tenerife after allegedly assaulting his 23-year-old partner in their home. The violent incident unfolded just after 2 am this morning (Thursday), when the terrified woman phoned emergency services saying she had been attacked.
According to the police, the suspect had returned home late and drunk before trying to force himself on the victim. When she refused, he reportedly turned violent, shoving and hitting her until she managed to call for help.
Officers from Policía Local de Santa Cruz de Tenerife arrived minutes later to find the woman visibly shaken. She told them this was not the first time she had suffered abuse at his hands. Police immediately gave her support and explained her rights, before escorting her to a health centre for medical attention.
Meanwhile, other officers entered the flat and found the man asleep in one of the bedrooms. He was arrested on the spot, identified, and taken into custody. He will be brought before the courts to face charges.
Police are urging anyone facing abuse to seek help. Victims can contact emergency services on 112 or use the confidential support helpline 016, which does not appear on phone bills.
