Lucky escape for driver after car hit by the wheel of a lorry on TF-1 motorway

A driver in Tenerife has had a very lucky escape yesterday (Wednesday) after his car was hit by a wheel that had come off a lorry that was travelling in the opposite carriageway on the TF-1 motorway in Barranco Hondo near junction 11.

According to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), the freak accident happened just after 5:00pm on the southbound carriageway, when a wheel detached itself from the lorry, bounced down the road, over the central reservation, and hit the oncoming car in the windscreen.

Incredibly, the driver of the white Hyundai managed to stop his car without causing a further accident and only suffered a ‘moderate facial injury’, which he was treated for before being transferred to hospital for further treatment.

As you can see, the stray wheel caused considerable damage to the car, but fortunately, no one else was injured in the incident, however, police are investigating how and why the wheel came free from the lorry in question.
