Locals take the law into their own hands and capture ‘the thief of Ten-Bel’

Local residents and workers at the Ten-Bel commercial centre in the south of Tenerife, took the law into their own hands yesterday and captured a thief who is accused of shoplifting from shops in the centre and pickpocketing passers-by.

Shop owners decided to group together and crack the case themselves, and managed to catch the thief after he was spotted stealing again at around 1:00pm yesterday. They caught the 28-year-old Moroccan in the shopping centre, with the store owner of the shop he had just stolen from, being the one who immobilised him.

As soon as they had caught him they called the police and four Guardia Civil came to officially arrest him, and the shop owners explained that the thief had been “stealing in the surrounding area for a long time."

According to the police report, the citizen of Moroccan origin had an arrest warrant against him issued by the authorities.

For the locals, it is a satisfying milestone as situations like this cause discontent, give them a bad image, and harm their businesses.
