Landlord arrested in Gran Canaria for forcing tenant into sex to avoid eviction
The Guardia Civil have arrested a 63-year-old man in Vecindario (Gran Canaria) accused of sexual assault and coercion after allegedly forcing his tenant to have sexual relations with him in exchange for not being evicted from her home.
According to an official police statement, the incident took place in late 2024 in a property located in Santa Lucía de Tirajana.
The victim, who had a rental contract with the suspect, reported that she was subjected to unwanted sexual touching and later coerced into full sexual relations under threats that she would be thrown out of the property if she refused.
Authorities emphasised that using threats or coercion to demand sexual acts not only constitutes sexual assault but also reveals a pattern of domination that can cause serious and lasting psychological harm to the victim.
The suspect has been brought before the Court of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, along with the police report prepared by investigators.
