Adeje’s famous Good Friday street performance, La Pasión, is set to return this week with several new features, including a major change to its Last Supper scene. The large-scale open-air production will take place on Friday, 3rd April, along Calle Grande, drawing hundreds of performers and spectators each year.
Organised by Adeje Town Hall, the event remains one of the most recognisable cultural highlights of Holy Week in the Canary Islands. This year’s edition introduces new choreography, updated costumes and props, and additional cast members to enhance the overall experience.
One of the most notable changes is a redesigned Last Supper scene, which has been updated to create a stronger visual and dramatic impact. New dance sequences have also been added, including a performance near the opening scene featuring Pilate and Claudia, as well as a symbolic routine in the Garden of Olives representing the struggle between good and evil.
Costumes have been refreshed, and new props introduced across several scenes, helping to modernise the production while preserving its traditional roots. Organisers have also continued to build on improvements made in recent years, including expanded scenes and stronger storytelling elements.
Around 300 amateur performers take part in the production, supported by a large team handling staging, costumes, lighting, security and logistics. The event has grown into one of the most important dates in the Canary Islands’ cultural calendar, attracting both residents and visitors.
The performance unfolds across the historic town centre, with 13 scenes depicting key moments from the story, including the entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the trial, and the Crucifixion. It concludes with a symbolic burial at the Church of Santa Úrsula.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live on regional television and online platforms. Visitors planning to attend are advised to arrive early, as large crowds are expected in Adeje’s old town.
