Jet2 flight to Tenerife makes emergency landing at Manchester Airport

A Jet2 flight travelling from East Midlands Airport to Tenerife was forced to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport on Thursday (6th February) due to a technical issue detected shortly after take-off.

Flight LS633, which was scheduled to depart East Midlands Airport at 9:00am and arrive at Tenerife South Airport at 1:30pm, initially took off on time, heading west over Ireland before turning southwest towards the Canary Islands. However, after passing Ireland, the flight unexpectedly turned around.

Tracking data shows that the aircraft then flew back over Ireland before changing course towards Manchester Airport, where it landed at 11:25am. Witnesses reported seeing the plane circling over the St Helens area before making its approach.

Although reports suggest the aircraft may have suffered a cracked windscreen, this has not been officially confirmed. A Jet2 spokesperson stated that the diversion was necessary due to a technical issue but reassured passengers that safety was never compromised.

“The aircraft landed as normal before customers were transferred onto a replacement aircraft,” the spokesperson added.

There have been no reports of injuries, and passengers were provided with alternative travel arrangements to continue their journey to Tenerife.
