A man wanted under an international arrest warrant for cyber fraud offences has been arrested in Tenerife after allegedly hiding out in different parts of the island to avoid detection.

Officers from the Canary Islands Police tracked down the suspect in Candelaria, where he was reportedly staying at the home of a distant relative. Following his arrest, he appeared before a judge and was remanded in custody.

According to the regional government’s Presidency Department, the man is being investigated for offences linked to cybercrime, fraud and money laundering. Authorities also claim he allegedly defrauded a close family member of around €20,000.

Before his arrest, the fugitive is believed to have hidden in the Benijos area in the upper part of La Orotava. Investigators say he deliberately avoided public exposure and took steps to make it difficult for police to trace him.

Officers said he rarely left the property where he was staying and avoided using personal documents or carrying out official procedures that could reveal his location. He also reportedly limited his movements as much as possible to avoid leaving an identifiable trail.

Police believe the suspect had advanced computer knowledge, which allegedly helped him stay under the radar while evading authorities.

The operation ended with his arrest in Candelaria, and the case is now in the hands of the courts, which will determine any criminal responsibility linked to the international warrant and the offences under investigation.
