A GES helicopter had to rescue a French hiker from Las Cañadas del Teide in Tenerife yesterday (Saturday) afternoon after he fell ill whilst hiking in the national park.
According to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), he was airlifted to the parador restaurant area where health personnel from the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) treated him and then transferred him to hospital for further treatment.
Fire outbreak on Teide:
In a non-related incident, CECOES has also reported that Cabildo Mountain services had to extinguish a fire in the national park on Friday, that they managed to contain so that it only affected a small area of 40 square metres.
No one was hurt in the incident, which only affected bushes and plants in the area, although an enquiry is underway to find out how it started, which they believe was accidental by a discarded cigarette, which is a chargeable offence.
