A male holidaymaker is in a serious condition after a near-drowning incident yesterday afternoon, Saturday, at Los Cristianos beach, in the south of Tenerife, according to the Canary Islands’ Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident occurred at 5:05pm, which is when CECOES received an alert that a man had been rescued from the water in cardiac arrest and showing signs of drowning.

Lifeguards from the beach safety service immediately began performing CPR until SUC medical personnel arrived and continued advanced resuscitation techniques. Medics were able to stabilise the man before transferring him in a medicalised ambulance to the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria University Hospital in Santa Cruz for further treatment.

Further details regarding his age, nationality or current condition have not been released.

This was the second serious drowning incident in the Canary Islands yesterday, after a 20-year-old woman was also hospitalised in serious condition following a near-drowning at another beach in the archipelago.
