Holiday makers evacuated due to fire in a complex in Costa Adeje

Guests were evacuated from 18 apartments in a holiday complex in Callao Salvaje (Adeje) in the south of Tenerife last night, after a fire broke out in the laundry room and started bellowing out black smoke, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

Frightened guests alerted staff at the Blue Seas complex of the smoke, and they immediately activated the emergency protocol and evacuated several of the rooms near the fire to avoid smoke inhalation.

CECOES dispatched firefighters from both the Adeje and San Miguel fire stations who were informed that a large amount of smoke was coming from the aparthotel basement, and they set to work to extinguish it as quickly as possible.

The Local Police of Adeje were also sent to the scene and cordoned off the area, making sure that people were at a safe distance from the fire. The firemen successfully smothered the blaze and extinguished it so that the laundry could be ventilated and the smoke could dissipate quickly without any harm to anyone.

In fact, the only person injured during the incident was a fireman who suffered a fall and was taken to hospital for treatment to his leg, but it has been classed as a minor injury.

After the area was given the all-clear, guests were allowed to return to the complex and continue their holiday without any fuss. The rapid intervention of the emergency resources allowed the situation not to be worse than it was.
