Adeje Town Hall has announced plans to restore a former tomato packing house in the La Postura area of the town, transforming it into a public space for social and cultural activities. The historic building dates back to the early 20th century and once played a key role in the area’s agricultural economy.

Now, it will be given a new lease of life thanks to a €290,000 restoration project, designed by architect Oliver Polegre Martín, which is due to begin in a month and be completed by the end of March.

A space for the community

Situated between Calle Piedra Redonda and Calle Sindicato, the building is surrounded by shops and residential areas. According to Epifanio Díaz Hernández, councillor for Works and Services, the initiative will “revitalise the area and provide the public with a safe, accessible, and versatile space for talks, conferences, exhibitions and group activities.”

The project includes:

  • A 118 m² multi-purpose room on the ground floor.
  • A 51 m² storeroom and ancillary spaces in the semi-basement.
  • A courtyard entrance with folding doors to extend the exhibition area.
  • Furniture, including 168 seats, folding tables, and conference chairs (additional €24,000 investment).

Accessible and sustainable design

The facility has been designed with universal accessibility in mind, offering adapted routes, an accessible toilet, and inclusive signage. A health and safety plan and waste management strategy will guide the construction process, with sustainability as a priority.

The building will feature:

  • Reinforced concrete foundations, laminated timber frames, and a ventilated tiled roof for energy efficiency.
  • Exposed brick and plasterboard façades with solar- and sound-controlled double glazing.
  • Modern electrical, plumbing, drainage, and air-conditioning systems.
  • Acoustic soundproofing in line with Spanish building regulations.
  • An energy rating of D.

Once completed, the restored packing house will provide Adeje with a modern yet historic venue that strengthens community life while preserving the town’s architectural heritage.
