Helicopter rescues two swimmers in distress off Tenerife coast

A GES rescue helicopter was involved in a dramatic rescue yesterday afternoon (Monday), airlifting two people in distress from the sea near the natural pool at Los Gigantes, on the west coast of Tenerife.

The rescue operation was launched at 3:35pm, after the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an urgent alert reporting that two people were in serious difficulty in the water and required immediate assistance.

CECOES quickly coordinated an emergency response, dispatching the GES helicopter and several other resources to the scene. Upon arrival, the helicopter crew located the two people struggling in the sea, and successfully hoisted them both aboard the helicopter, bringing them safely to shore.

The helicopter landed at the helipad of the Adeje Fire Brigade, where medical teams were on standby to treat the rescued individuals.

According to information provided by CECOES, the female victim displayed symptoms of moderate hypothermia and semi-drowning. She was taken to the Hospital Universitario Hospiten Sur by ambulance for medical treatment.

The second victim, a 34-year-old man, suffered minor abrasions. He was also taken to the same hospital for routine observation.

The public are advised to check what colour flags are flying on beaches and in bathing areas before entering the water, especially as the islands are under pre-alerts for storm conditions.
