At least 32 people have been evacuated from a guesthouse in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after structural cracks appeared in the building, reportedly caused by demolition works on a neighbouring property.

The incident took place on Calle Ripoche, where a building currently being demolished has led to what authorities have described as “structural cracks” in the adjacent property. According to the Local Police, the affected building operates as a guesthouse and was hosting dozens of guests at the time.

Given the seriousness of the damage, officers from the Local Police, together with firefighters from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, ordered the immediate evacuation of the premises as a safety measure. A total of 32 people were required to leave the building.

Las Palmas City Council has been working to arrange temporary accommodation for those affected, at least for the night, while municipal technicians assess the condition of the structure. The inspections will determine whether it is safe for residents and guests to return to the building.

Inspection work is continuing in the area to establish the full extent of the damage and to ensure the stability of neighbouring buildings.
