The Guardia Civil have carried out a surprise raid on several Cannabis Clubs in the south of Tenerife, resulting in the arrest of five people suspected of selling drugs illegally outside the regulations of their ‘Smoking Assocations’.
The detainees, along with the confiscated substances and related case files, have been placed at the disposal of the Granadilla de Abona Magistrate’s Court.
Undercover Investigation Exposes Illegal Drug Sales
The operation, named "Sunset Sport", was led by officers from the Playa de las Americas division of the Guardia Civil, with the objective of cracking down on cannabis clubs allegedly being used as fronts for the illegal sale of marijuana and hashish.
They launched the investigation in 2024 after identifying a number of establishments operating under the guise of legal cannabis associations but suspected of engaging in illicit drug distribution.
Over several months, investigators gathered sufficient evidence to carry out coordinated raids on three such establishments, two in San Isidro and one in Los Abrigos. The searches resulted in the seizure of:

The operation was supported by officers from the Granadilla de Abona Local Police and the Canary Islands General Police Corps.
Notably, the leader of one of the targeted associations had already been arrested for similar offences in 2022 but had continued with the same illegal activities.
This latest police action emphasizes the authorities’ ongoing commitment to dismantling networks that exploit the legal framework surrounding cannabis associations to facilitate drug trafficking in the Canary Islands.
