CD Tenerife beat UD Las Palmas 2-1 tonight (Saturday) at the Gran Canaria stadium, and are one tie from returning to top-flight football in LaLiga. The final will be between the blue and whites of Tenerife against the winner of the tie between SD Eibar and Girona FC tomorrow afternoon.
CDT started with a 1-0 lead from the first leg and scored two goals in the first half, through Catalan striker Enric Gallego in the 4th minute, and the second from a penalty, in injury time of the first half. This meat that CDT entered half-time 3-0 up on aggregate and looking comfortable.
Las Palmas, who lost Jonathan Viera due to injury before the break, needed to start the second half quickly and reduced the deficit with a goal from Eric Curbelo, coming from a corner.
From then on, Tenerife put everyone behind the ball as Las Palmas had the lion's share of possession and tried everything to close the gap, but couldn’t break through and at the final whistle the Tenerife team were able to celebrate a historic victory in a match that will go down in history.
