Dense fog has once again disrupted operations at Tenerife North Airport, causing three flight diversions and the cancellation of another yesterday morning (Thursday) due to reduced visibility, according to Spain’s airport authority, AENA.
Flights arriving from Lanzarote, Barcelona, and Madrid were diverted to Tenerife South Airport, while a round-trip service to La Palma was cancelled entirely.
Despite the morning disruptions, AENA confirmed that all other flights continued as scheduled and that the rest of the airport's operations remained unaffected.
This follows a more serious episode on Wednesday, when over 20 flights were impacted by heavy fog in the Los Rodeos area, leading to a wave of delays, diversions, and cancellations.
Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status
Travellers flying to or from Tenerife North are advised to check with their airlines before heading to the airport, especially during early morning or late evening hours when fog is most likely to impact visibility, as AEMET are once again forecasting cloudy and overcast conditions in the area.
Fog-related disruptions are not uncommon at Tenerife North, given its elevated inland location, which makes it more prone to low cloud cover and visibility issues, particularly in the summer months.
