More than a dozen flights were diverted from Tenerife North Airport last night as Storm Therese continues to disrupt air travel across the islands. Poor visibility and active storms in the surrounding area made normal operations impossible at Los Rodeos, forcing aircraft to reroute.
Most diverted flights were redirected to Tenerife South Airport, creating knock-on disruption for passengers and airlines. In response, the president of the Tenerife Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, confirmed the launch of a special relocation operation to assist around 250 travellers affected by the diversions.
The measure aims to ensure passengers can be safely transferred and accommodated as needed while conditions remain unstable.
Tenerife is currently one of the worst affected islands in the Canary Islands, with the north under red weather alert and a declared emergency situation due to intense rainfall and storm activity, particularly throughout Tuesday evening and night.
Travellers are being advised to check directly with airlines for updates and allow extra time when travelling, as further disruption remains likely.
