Flight to the Canary Islands granted priority landing due to pilot illness

A flight heading to Gran Canaria was granted emergency priority landing yesterday (Sunday) after one of the pilots became unwell during the flight. The situation was first reported via their official X (formerly Twitter) account, which provided details on how the emergency was handled.

According to the account, the crew on Vueling flight VY3162 from Santiago notified air traffic control that one of the pilots was indisposed, prompting an immediate request for priority landing.

In response, air traffic controllers swiftly provided a direct flight path to runway 03L at Las Palmas airport, coordinating with ground teams to ensure medical assistance would be available upon arrival.

The aircraft landed safely without further incident and all passengers reached their destination without further incident.

The prompt and effective actions of both the flight crew and air traffic controllers were instrumental in resolving the situation smoothly, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
