A fire broke out yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) in the area of La Playa, in the municipality of Valle Gran Rey, in La Gomera, at approximately 4pm according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), in which firefighters discovered a human body whilst tackling the blaze.
The Cabildo de La Gomera were first to report the outbreak, which members of the Environment Unit, Valle Gran Rey Volunteer Firefighters, Protecciòn Civil, AEA, Guardia Civil, Local Police, and the Canary Islands Health Service collaborated to combat the fire.
The good news was that they reported at 7.30pm that the fire was under control and stabilised, even though not fully extinguished with minimal damage, containing it to scrubland and bushes which created a lot of smoke.
However, during the emergency, CECOES confirmed that the body of a person was found in the area of the fire, which at this stage has not been identified. The Guardia Civil has taken charge of the investigation to find out who it is and the cause of death.
