Fire outbreak in Santiago del Teide in Tenerife

The Tenerife Cabildo has reported that there was an outbreak of fire this morning in Santiago del Teide, on the west coast of Tenerife, not far from the residential areas of the town.

Fortunately, it didn’t last long due to the fast actions of BRIFOR and the firefighters who immediately went to extinguish it as soon as they received the alert.

In total, around two hectares of dry scrubland were affected, as you can see in this aerial photo, however, this is a warning as, as you can see, it is located not far from the tree line of the pine forests and could easily have spread and turned into a major incident.

Fire outbreak in Santiago del Teide in Tenerife

Today an orange alert for extreme temperatures and the risk of fires over the next week has been issued, due to the weather conditions forecast and the dryness of the terrain due to a lack of rain.

The islands are heading towards forest fire conditions known as the Three30s, which are:
- Temperatures exceeding 30°C (very hot).
- Humidity of less than 30% (very dry).
- Winds over 30kmh (very windy).

In these conditions, fires can not only start very easily but also spread very easily with the wind, so caution is advised to prevent a fire starting, particularly to smokers when discarding cigarette butts.
