Fire on the TF-1 motorway causes long traffic jams

There were long traffic jams on the TF-1 motorway in Tenerife this morning (Wednesday) after a lorry caught fire on the northbound carriageway near Güímar, in the direction of Santa Cruz.

The fire broke out just after 11:00am giving off a huge column of black smoke that was visible several kilometres away, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CCOES).

The fire brigade were dispatched to the scene to put out the blaze assisted by Highway Maintenance Services and the Guardia Civil who controlled traffic to try and alleviate jams as quickly and safely as possible.

Fortunately, it has been reported that no one has been hurt in the incident and that the lorry driver managed to get out unharmed.

Drivers driving in both directions are requested to be extremely careful, since the ‘rubber necking’ effect also generates slow traffic in the opposite direction.
