A fire at a communications centre on Acojeja mountain in the south of Tenerife this morning (Monday), left thousands without phones or internet at the centre was completely destroyed in the blaze.
Firefighters from San Miguel were called to the blaze in Granadilla early this morning, which is thought to have started either by an electrical short in the rain or by a lightning strike on the antennas during a storm.
They managed to control the fire and extinguish it without it spreading to other towers, which reduced the damage to communications overall, and reported that no-one was hurt in the incident.
Technicians from the phone companies have been working to reroute the phone connections as quickly as possible to restore their service to people who have been left without any communications.
