Emergency services were mobilised last night (Tuesday) after a fire broke out on the lower slopes of Montaña de Guaza in the south of Tenerife. The blaze, which was highly visible from surrounding residential areas, generated a large plume of grey smoke and sparked concern among residents in nearby communities.

Firefighters and emergency response teams were quickly deployed to the scene and worked to contain the perimeter of the fire and prevent it from spreading further across the hillside.

The incident occurred on the night of the San Juan celebrations, one of the busiest nights of the year across the Canary Islands, when bonfires are traditionally lit to mark the start of summer.

Witnesses reported that both the flames and the thick smoke could be seen from various points around the area, attracting the attention of local residents, motorists and passers-by.

The exact cause of the fire has not been confirmed and authorities have not determined whether it was accidental or deliberate. However, given the timing of the incident during San Juan festivities, early indications suggest the fire may have been linked to an unauthorised bonfire that spread beyond control.

No injuries have been reported so far, and there is currently no indication that nearby homes were under immediate threat. Authorities are expected to provide further updates once the situation is fully assessed.
