Europe's premier surfing event returns to Tenerife with Spring Surfest Las Americas Pro 2024

Tenerife is set to host Europe’s top surfing competition once again as the Spring Surfest Las Américas Pro 2024 kicks off this weekend. Scheduled to run from November 22nd to December 8th, the festival will transform the municipality of Arona into the epicentre of national and international surfing, marking a grand finale to the 2024 surfing season.

This 17-day event seamlessly blends sport, culture, social activism, and environmental protection through a variety of activities.

The official launch took place last week at the UP! venue of Hotel Bitácora, part of Spring Hotels. The event was inaugurated by notable figures including Fátima Lemes, Mayor of Arona; Luis Sierra, Councillor of Sports; Miguel Villarroya, General Director of Spring Hotels; and Lucía Martiño, a professional surfer participating in the competition. Ángel Lobo, President of the Canarian Surf Federation, also hosted the ceremony.

Featuring Top Surfing Talent

The event will feature prominent surfers, including Lucía Martiño, an Asturian surfer based in Tenerife. Martiño praised the competition’s quality, stating, “As a surfer, this event is one of the best, if not the best, at the national level because of everything it entails. It has a wave of exceptional quality, the Spanish Left, which always offers good conditions for competition and presents the greatest challenge we encounter in many championships.” She expressed her determination to perform her best and her excitement for the new edition to commence.

Celebrating Tenerife’s Premier Surf Spot

Luis Sierra, Arona’s Councillor of Sports, emphasized the event’s positive impact both now and in the future. “For Arona, this event has a very positive impact both in the present and the future, as this championship gives us the opportunity to showcase one of Europe’s best waves, the Spanish Left,” Sierra stated. He also expressed gratitude towards all administrations and brands that make the event possible, enabling the municipality to welcome top-tier national and international surfers.

Fátima Lemes, Mayor of Arona, shared her enthusiasm: “Las Americas is once again a world reference by hosting an essential surfing event and an opportunity for local and resident surfers to enjoy this type of international-level event. Arona will be a remarkable meeting point not only for its organization but also for hosting the best surfers in an unparalleled setting, with the fantastic waves along our municipality’s coast.”

Support from Spring Hotels and the Local Economy

Miguel Villarroya, General Director of Spring Hotels, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting events that celebrate the harmony between sea and sport. “At Spring Hotels, we feel very comfortable supporting events like Spring Surfest Las Américas Pro because anything related to the sea and sport is an opportunity to highlight the attributes of the archipelago, particularly Tenerife,” Villarroya commented.

He added, “Companies need to support events like this to boost the local economy connected to sports and attract a potential market such as sports tourism.”
