England and Wales football ‘fans’ clash in the south of Tenerife

Thousands of English and Welsh football fans have flocked to the Tenerife sunshine instead of going to Qatar, to watch their teams compete at the World Cup. However, whereas there is a ban on alcohol in Qatar, there is no such thing here and unfortunately, the disgraceful actions of some are spreading like wildfire across social media.

Yesterday (Friday) results didn’t go the way fans wanted, as Wales were beaten by Iran 2-0 in the morning match, which kicked off at 10am local time, and England gave a lacklustre performance for a 0-0 draw with the USA, but that is no excuse for these scenes.

After the England game, which finished at 9pm, fans clashed in the Veronicas area in Playa Las Americas with several fights taking place in the street outside the pubs and clubs, with a bar stool being used as a weapon at one point.

The Tenerife authorities say that they want to attract a ‘better class’ of tourists to the island, and it’s easy to see why when you see incidents like this, however, it is also important to remember that this is an isolated incident and you can't tarnish all football fans with the same brush, as the rest are enjoying the World Cup in bars across the islands in the spirit that it should be enjoyed.
