EasyJet announces 10th UK base with new route to Canary Islands

EasyJet has announced the opening of its tenth base in the UK, at London Southend Airport, scheduled to be in operation from March 2025. This new base will feature three Airbus A320neo aircraft and introduce six new routes, including a highly anticipated service to Gran Canaria.

This development continues EasyJet’s strategic growth in the UK, following the recent inauguration of a base at Birmingham International Airport in March of this year.

The airline's UK network now includes bases at London Gatwick, London Luton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast, and the upcoming London Southend.

The UK remains EasyJet’s largest market, accounting for 56% of its total passenger traffic. The announcement comes as the airline prepares for its largest UK operation to date, offering over 57 million seats - an increase of 10% from the previous year - and introducing 70 new routes from British airports.

Currently, EasyJet operates international routes from London Southend to popular urban and beach destinations such as Amsterdam (Netherlands), Geneva (Switzerland), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (France), Faro (Portugal), Palma de Mallorca, and Málaga.

New Routes:

The addition of three new aircraft at London Southend will enable EasyJet to launch six new routes to:

  • Gran Canaria
  • Pisa, Italy
  • Dalaman and Antalya, Turkey
  • Marrakech, Morocco
  • Enfidha, Tunisia

These new routes will be available for booking seats starting this Friday, with flights commencing from May 1st, 2025. This expansion means that holiday packages from London Southend will be available seven days a week, with tickets going on sale in the coming months.

EasyJet’s expansion reflects its commitment to providing more travel options and enhancing connectivity for passengers in the UK. The introduction of these new routes is expected to offer greater convenience for travellers looking to explore these diverse destinations.
