A 39-year-old man has been arrested in Tenerife after a dangerous police chase during which he was found carrying 230 kilos of hashish in his van.

The incident began in the Las Chafiras area, where officers from the Guardia Civil spotted a vehicle behaving suspiciously and signalled for it to stop. Instead of pulling over, the driver allegedly sped up and rammed a police car, leaving it badly damaged, although no officers were injured.

He then fled at high speed, at one point driving on the wrong side of the road and colliding with several other vehicles, putting both drivers and pedestrians at serious risk.

The pursuit continued towards Las Galletas, where two Guardia Civil patrol cars managed to block and stop the van just outside the town centre.

During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered six packages of hashish hidden in the load area, weighing around 230 kilos in total.

The suspect, who lives in Arona, has been charged with drug trafficking, serious disobedience of police orders, and offences against road safety.

After appearing before a judge, he has been remanded in custody while the investigation continues.
