A man has been arrested following a fatal collision on Saturday in which a 28-year-old motorcyclist died on the TF-65 in San Miguel de Abona, south Tenerife.
The crash occurred at 11:30am near the turning for Las Zocas, when a car collided head on with the motorcycle, causing the rider’s death.
According to reports, confirmed by the Guardia Civil, the driver of the car has been detained on suspicion of causing death by gross negligence. They say that he tested positive for both alcohol and drugs, with his alcohol level reportedly above 0.60.
Two motorcycle deaths over the weekend are linked
This tragedy comes just a day after another fatal motorcycle accident on the TF-1 motorway near the Granadilla de Abona industrial estate, where a 34-year-old woman died after crashing into a bus travelling southbound.
The Guardia Civil has confirmed that the two victims — the man killed on Saturday and the woman who died on Friday — were a couple, adding a devastating emotional dimension to an already tragic weekend on Tenerife’s roads.
No arrests have been made in relation to that incident, and investigations remain ongoing.
