A 30-year-old diver is in a critical condition after being hit by a recreational boat in the marina at Radazul, in the municipality of El Rosario, Tenerife.

According to the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Coordination Centre (CECOES) 112, the incident happened shortly before 7:00pm yesterday (Sunday). Emergency services received reports that a diver who had been fishing in the area had been hit by a small private boat but was able to swim to the breakwater.

Some beachgoers who were nearby rushed to help the injured man. With the assistance of a jet ski, he was brought to a pontoon where firefighters were waiting and carried out the rescue before transferring him to medical teams.

Paramedics from the Canary Islands Emergency Service treated and stabilised the diver before transporting him urgently to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands. He was admitted in a critical condition.

To help speed up the transfer, patrols from the Guardia Civil and Local Police escorted the ambulance to the hospital.

Police officers have opened an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
