A man has been arrested in Puerto del Rosario after allegedly deceiving a disabled woman with a false job offer and forcing her into prostitution in Fuerteventura, according to the National Police.
The victim is a Spanish woman with a recognised disability of 57%. It is reported that she was deliberately targeted because of her vulnerable situation and financial need. Police say the suspect exploited her condition to exert control, intimidate her and strip her of any independence.
The investigation began on 5th January after the woman herself went to the police. She told officers she had been recruited through deception, believing she was accepting legitimate employment on the island. Instead, once she arrived, she was taken to a property in the capital and allegedly forced into prostitution.
According to investigators, the woman had no freedom of movement and no control over the money she earned. All profits were allegedly taken by the suspect, who controlled her through fear and intimidation.
Police say part of the sexual exploitation was organised through online escort adverts posted on contact websites, which were allegedly created and managed directly by the man now under arrest.
The police operation brought the situation to an immediate end. Protection and support protocols were activated to safeguard the victim and ensure she received comprehensive assistance following her ordeal.
The suspect was arrested on 14th January in Puerto del Rosario, and he will now face judicial proceedings
