A body in an advanced state of decomposition has been found on a roundabout of the TF-4 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Los Moriscos area near Hoya Fría. The discovery was confirmed by the National Police, who are now leading the investigation.
The remains were found at approximately 6:00pm on Wednesday (25th February) after an alert was received by the 112 Canarias call centre. Emergency responders from the fire service and the National Police were immediately deployed to the scene to secure the area and recover the body.
Due to the secluded nature of the roundabout, and the condition of the remains, it is unclear how long the body may have been there before being seen.
Identification impossible at the scene
Officers confirmed that the body was in such an advanced state of decomposition that no visual identification could be made. Forensic specialists will now rely on scientific methods, including DNA testing, dental records, and analysis of personal effects, to help determine the individual’s identity.
Investigators are also reviewing recent missing-person reports from the area to assess whether any cases may be linked to the discovery.
Autopsy expected to clarify the cause of death
The corpse has been transferred to the Forensic Pathology Institute, where an autopsy will be carried out in the coming hours. The examination will be crucial in determining whether the death was accidental, natural, or if foul play is suspected.
Police sources stress that all lines of inquiry remain open until the results of the autopsy are available.
Area cordoned off during recovery
Traffic restrictions were put in place on the TF-4 roundabout while emergency crews worked at the scene. The area was cordoned off to preserve evidence and ensure the integrity of the investigation. Authorities have since reopened the road.
Appeal for information
While the investigation is ongoing, the National Police may issue a public appeal if further information is required. For now, they urge anyone who may have passed through the Los Moriscos–Hoya Fría area in recent days and noticed unusual activity to come forward.
Further updates are expected once forensic reports are completed and investigators are able to determine the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding the death.
